THE DUPPY SHARE GUIDE TO MAKING THE BEST MOJITO

Like many cocktails containing rum, the origins of the mojito are shrouded in mystery. It is said that the original mojito was a medicinal drink, used by Cubans to ward off various tropical diseases. Others believe that the mojito has its roots in an earlier drink, 'El Draque', named after Sir Francis Drake; he created the rum, mint, sugarcane and lime concoction to treat his abysmally fatigued seafaring crew.

A classic mojito usually centres around a white rum but for our version, we're creating a 'Golden mojito' because of the amber colour of our Aged rum – we think the inclusion of an Aged rum adds a great depth.

It’s super quick and easy to make, so if you need a pick me up or you are raring to go for the weekend, we’ve got you covered.

(we can't guarantee you'll be as smooth as Pierce)

For our mojito recipe we’d recommend using our Aged rum, which is an amazing blend of a tropical, fruity 3 year old rum from the Worthy Park distillery in Jamaica and a smooth, buttery 5 year old rum from the Four Square distillery in Barbados. Together they make a beautifully balanced rum that will make the perfect addition to any mojito. Or for a twist on this classic version, try our spiced rum to create your very own Pineapple Mojito.

You will need the following ingredients and utensils for your mojito.

  • The Duppy Share Aged rum
  • Soda Water
  • A sprig of mint leaves
  • 1 Lime
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • Crushed ice
  • A Glass
  • A Muddle
  • Optional Dried Citrus

Instructions:

  • Slice your lime into 4-6 wedges and add to your glass, along with your sugar and mint leaves
  • Using your muddle, press the ingredients together by squeezing the lime and crushing the mint
  • Next add the crushed ice
  • Pour 50ml of Duppy Aged rum into your glass
  • Top up with soda water and stir for a wonderfully fresh rum-based concoction
  • Garnish with mint or for an extra flare some dehydrated citrus

Et voilà, now you have the best mojito around.

And don’t forget to tag us in any photos of your epic mojitos, we would love to see what you’ve created so please share with us @theduppyshare
